Amazon acquires communications startup Slack for $9 billion

Electronic enthusiasts eight o'clock: Foreign media quoted sources as saying that a number of technology companies, including e-commerce giant Amazon, recently contacted corporate communications startup Slack to test potential acquisitions.

According to sources, buyers have a valuation of Slack of at least $9 billion. No definitive agreement has been reached and the relevant negotiations may not continue.

Both Amazon and Slack declined to comment.

Slack raised $200 million in the latest round of financing in 2016, with a valuation of $3.8 billion. Slack launched commercial chat software in 2013 and has recently turned its attention to a larger user community. In January of this year, the enterprise version of Slack chat software was unveiled, which can provide services to large IBM-like companies for tens of thousands of inter-departmental employees to work together.

Microsoft released its own chat platform Teams in November last year. Teams is based on Microsoft Cloud Services Office 365, which is intended to compete with Slack products.

Slack has 5 million active users, including 1.5 million paying users. As of January 31, Slack's annual recurring income reached $150 million.
