AMD: IBM did not give us OEM processors

Yesterday there were rumors that the Blue Giant had quietly begun to provide AMD OEM APU processors to help ease the production difficulties, but AMD denied this today, and said that IBM is only to provide consulting services to GlobalFoundries for semiconductor technology. AMD spokesperson said: "IBM provided GF with support, but as far as I know, they did not make chips for us."

In semiconductor process development, IBM, GlobalFoundries (formerly AMD), Samsung Electronics, and STMicroelectronics have been alliance partners for many years. Rory Read said: "We cooperate and win together... whether it's in difficult times or smooth times. We have worked with IBM and GlobalFoundries to work together on chip flow testing and data collection... We are really concerned now. It is an improvement in execution. We also benefit from them thanks to the joint work of our partners."

The production capacity seems to be the eternal pain in AMD's mind. It was particularly evident in 2011. The bulldozers FX and Llano APU both use 32nm technology. However, GlobalFoundries has made slow progress in this area, and it has been unable to increase the yield rate, forcing AMD and GlobalFoundries have signed a new wafer supply agreement, but now it seems that the problem has basically been solved.
