Research report indicates that at least 6 paid 4K channels will be broadcast worldwide this year

A 4K/UHDTV broadcast study published by expert consultant Nick Russell and published by British digital television and media consultancy FairmileWest stated that at least six major pay-TV broadcasters worldwide will launch 4K UHD services in the second half of this year.

The study indicated that although UHD faces many technical challenges (especially higher transmission frame rates and the EBU's proposal to delay 4K transmission before the UHD is operational in the second phase), it is still expected that meaningful transmission will begin this year. Russell said: "The evidence is that despite the challenges and risks of launching services before the second phase, many of the first-tier broadcasters are now generally forced to launch limited UHD business services in 2015-2016 in order to respond to the OTT and catch up with 2016. Olympic Games."

Rusell added that he learned that many companies believe that from 2016 to 2020 (average of 2018) will begin a large-scale deployment of 4K, they believe that by then:

There will be enough content

The second phase of the standard determines and explicitly implements the end-to-end implementation, making the consumer applause
FairmileWest said in the report that UHD services have been dominated by OTT for the time being, and that some first-tier broadcast service providers who must maintain their competitive advantage over OTTs through limited channels during the 2015 and 2016 Rio Olympic Games will follow suit.
