Losslessly demounting disk partitions is not as difficult as expected

With emotion, "plans can't keep up with changes" is a truth that has not changed since ancient times. Take the size of the computer's disk as an example. The size of the partitions has been conceived during the installation process, but in actual use, application changes are always occurring.

Like my work computer, the 180GB system partition of C drive is too big to use, and the program installation partition of D drive into 300GB is almost not enough. The nearly 500GB storage partition of E drive is somewhat redundant. We can’t just reinstall the system and adjust the partition once because of the change in usage requirements.

In fact, it is OK to adjust the partition, but there is no need to reinstall the computer once. Right-click on "This Computer" and select "Manage",

Click "Disk Management" on the left, you can see all the disks and partition sizes in the current computer.

After that, right-click on the partition where you want to redistribute the extra space and select "Compress Volume". After a while, Windows will tell you which space (maximum) can be split out.

Finally, just set a space that does not exceed the maximum value and select "Compress" to create a new partition for us to use, it's very simple. If you want to merge multiple partitions, you must use professional disk partitioning software such as DiskGenius. I don't recommend this operation. The risk is quite large. It is recommended to use portable hard disks and other devices to make disk backups before operation.

Oh, it is estimated that some friends may ask why the editor's computer partitions are all "integer". In fact, it is very simple. The hard disk manufacturer calculates according to 1000MB=1GB, while the system calculates according to 1024MB=1GB.
