Unreal Engine 4.13 update, greatly optimizing VR support!

Unreal Engine 4.13 has come! In this version you can see various improvements in all aspects.

VR games can now use capsule-shadow technology, and instant stereo rendering has also been optimized. Also remember to take a look at the new VR project template! It provides a good example of how to use handle interaction and how to move around the game.

Is it now possible to build game levels in a virtual reality environment? The phantom VR Editor has also made further progress. It now supports the drawing of models or vegetation, a new mobile control handle, and VR color selection. Finally, you can now play directly in VR! In the Labs section of the Editor Preferences Settings, you can find "Enable VR Editing" and enable it.

New Product: VR Project Template

We have added a new project template this time, which is specially designed for desktop and host virtual reality projects.

To access this template, simply select the VR project in the window of the new project.

The setup of this blueprint project has been prepared to run up to 90 frames per second in VR. In order to support different types of controllers, this template contains two types of movements, implemented in two different sets of Pawn blueprints. The first set is for the gamepad design, and the other set is for the motion controller design. When using the motion controller, you can teleport to different locations to grab and throw objects. The C++ version of this template will be available in future updates, and the VR template for mobile platforms will come later.

Maps and model surfaces can now be painted directly in the VR editor.

Here you can use the motion control handle to apply the static mesh surface directly in the immersive environment of the VR. Just open the "Modes" panel and click the "Mesh Paint" tab. Then just select an object in the scene, aim it and press the handle trigger to apply it. Pressure sensitivity is also supported by the handle trigger button, and the current drawing can be erased by holding down the “Modifier” button.

New goods: Vegetation smear in VR

In this version, you can use the motion handle to paint surface vegetation directly in VR.

Select a vegetation type, point the laser beam to the desired location and depress the trigger trigger button to paint the vegetation! You can also press and hold the Modifier button to erase the vegetation. Pressing force is also effective. In addition, Vegetation Editor has also made some improvements for better use in VR, but there are still some features that are not available, such as lasso tools and selection tools.

New Product: Color Selection Tool in VR

The color selection window is now also available directly in VR. Therefore, you can directly modify the lighting or other Actor's color properties in the scene. You can also use the color picker as a vertex and texture drawing in VR.

New: VR Editor Runs Games Directly

To make game prototypes easier, you can now start VR games directly in the VR editor. Just click “Play” on the quick menu to start the game directly into VR! Quit the game Back to the VR editor, press and hold the Grip button at the same time with both handles, and simultaneously depress the trigger button.

New Goods: VR Object Control Tool Improvements

The mobile tools in the VR editor have also been improved to make it easier to use and have some new features!

Translating and rotating objects is more natural, and in VR you can also pan or zoom objects in a consistent 2D plane. After that we will make further improvements to the tool.

By using the quick menu, you can now add a flashlight to the handle to illuminate the dark part of the scene, or use it to view the interaction of different materials and lights.

Now when the VR Editor mode is turned on, it is no longer necessary to manually click on the VR button to enter or exit the VR mode. When the editor is the current active window, only the head-display device needs to be brought in, and the VR editing mode is automatically entered, but the VR editing mode is automatically exited when the head-display device is removed.

If necessary, there is a setting in the VR test function to switch whether this automatic function is used.
