Way of working

The isolated flyback power supply as shown is designed around the LNK564DN (U1) of the LinkSwitch-LP product line. Outputs up to 5 V/350 mA (1.75 W) over a universal input voltage range of 90-265 VAC.

design feature

  • A small PCB board (1.12 × 0.89 inches) can be used in the SO-8 package
  • High switching frequency (100 kHz) for small, lightweight transformers (EE-13)
  • Small component count: only 16 components
  • Output power level and MOSFET current limit point keep MOSFET drain node clamp-free (Clampless?)
  • Half-wave rectification allows input conduction EMI filter inductors to be used as Filterfuse?
  • Meet CEC/Energy Star requirements for operational status efficiency (64% vs 54% minimum)
  • No-load input power consumption <100 mW at 230 VAC
  • Meets CISPR-22/EN55022 B conducted EMI limits and does not use Y capacitors
  • Constant voltage constant current (CV/CC) output characteristics are ideal for replacing 50/60 Hz linear transformer chargers
