2017NEC World Children's Nature Camp

On March 20th, the three-day 2017NEC World Children's Nature Camp officially closed. The natural camp organized around the theme of the spring equinoxes and organized children from different countries and regions to conduct outdoor natural experience activities under the guidance of natural educators throughout the country. The partners in other countries and regions share their experience and understanding of the surrounding environment. During the process, they encourage their students to explore natural and environmental issues. They not only know where they are, but also have a global perspective.

At the end of 2016, “24 solar terms” was approved for inclusion in the UNESCO Human Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative List. Chinese people have already read and will recite the “24-June Festival” children’s songs since they were even younger. With the development of urbanization, people gradually get away from the countryside and away from nature, and fewer and fewer people understand the wisdom and deep culture contained in the twenties.

How to guide children to discover the relationship between nature and life? How can traditional culture nourish children's lives? How can we see the diversity and richness of the world while inheriting traditions and understanding our “roots”? NEC has organized the “2017 NEC World Children’s Nature Camp” in cooperation with the Japan KEEP Association and the Beijing Tianxia Creek Educational Consultation Center. Integrate the above thinking into your activities.

Revisit the rituals of worshiping the Japanese and learn more about the Chinese culture’s love for nature

In ancient times, the most important thing for the Equinox was to worship the sun and thank it for the light and warmth it brought to people. On the first day of the event, the children went to the Ritual Park of the Sun God in the Ming and Qing Dynasties to worship the Great God, the Sun God, to learn the etiquette during the process of worship. They were dressed in the clothing of the Qing Dynasty and obeyed the general lines of the sacrificial ceremony to relive the practice. Life adds a sense of ritual, and also more intuitively understands the inseparable relationship between man and nature in the Chinese culture.

Hands-on experience of Spring Festival activities and understanding of solar terms from life

In the daily life of ordinary people, the breath of spring is reflected in the details of food and games. During the event, the children created their own spring foods: spring cakes, and learned why this season would happen, and what its material choices had to do with natural changes.

Like traditional food, many traditional games come from nature, such as the three most typical activities of kites, paper cutting, and standing eggs. Paper-cutting non-genetic inheritors were also invited to the event site to give lectures on the culture of paper-cutting and Chinese people's view of nature.
