"Internet hot air balloon" landing in Sri Lanka

Google's "Internet Hot Air Balloon" project aims to popularize the Internet in developing countries. Recently, this fantastic project has taken a milestone step. On Tuesday, Google and the South Asian country Sri Lanka signed an agreement that Google will use high air balloons to provide Internet services to Sri Lanka.

According to relevant experts, Sri Lanka has also become Google's first commercial hotline in the world. As an island nation, Sri Lanka is small in size and the country has the most advanced reception technology in South Asia, making it the first commercial country for Google Balloons.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera (who is also an IT-related departmental minister) confirmed that the government of that country has signed a contract with Google. In the coming months, Google will use high-altitude helium balloons to provide on-site access to the Internet. And throughout the island of Sri Lanka, from the southernmost point of Dondra to the northernmost point of Pedro, each village can use the Internet service provided by Google Balloons.

In addition to the general public, companies that provide Internet access services on the ground can also use Google Balloons to intervene in backbone networks to reduce operating costs.

An official of the Sri Lankan government disclosed that it is expected that by March next year, Google will launch all the Internet balloon balloons to provide nationwide Internet services.

The total population of Sri Lanka exceeds 20 million people. Thanks to Google’s plan, there are currently 2.8 million mobile Internet users in China and 61 million for fixed-line Internet users.
