The production line has a total investment of 46.5 billion yuan. It was started construction in May 2015, and the main plant is capped in July 2016. The designed capacity is 48,000 glass substrates per month (the size of the glass substrate is 1850mm x 1500mm), and it is positioned on high-end mobile phones and displays. Emerging mobile display and other products.
It is understood that the production line uses the world's most advanced vapor deposition process and is the first AMOLED production line in China to use this process. The process can cut the glass substrate into half for vapor deposition, which has high technical difficulty.
At the same time, the production line uses a low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) plastic substrate instead of the traditional amorphous silicon (a-Si) glass substrate, the electron mobility is more than 100 times higher, and has a very good signal drive and system integration capabilities. Among them, the product with LTPS screen resolution is higher, so that small-size products can also have 4K-level ultra-high resolution.
In addition, the production line also uses flexible packaging technology to achieve display screen bending and folding, can be widely used in smart wear, mobile phones, tablet computers, car display and other high-end mobile phone display and emerging mobile display products.
In addition to the sixth-generation flexible AMOLED production line in Chengdu, BOE (BOE) also invested in a 6-generation flexible OLED production line in Mianyang, Sichuan in December 2016. The planned production capacity is 48,000 glass substrates per month (the glass substrate size is 1850mm x 1500mm ), is expected to achieve mass production in 2019.
As one of the new directions for display development, AMOLED has a broad application prospect in the smart terminal market such as high-end smart phones and wearable devices. According to Quzhi's consulting data, from the perspective of the development of mobile terminal panels, by the year 2020, flexible AMOLEDs will account for 65% of the total AMOLED production capacity, and 2017 and 2018 will be the fastest two years for flexible AMOLED growth.
However, due to South Korea's early deployment in the AMOLED field, Korean-based manufacturers led by Samsung have a first-mover advantage in the AMOLED field. At present, the technology and production capacity of global AMOLED display products are dominated by Korean-based manufacturers such as Samsung. In the first three quarters of 2016, Samsung’s market share in the global small and medium size OLED display panels reached 97%.
