The "NB-IoT Intelligent Lighting Joint Laboratory" was officially established on October 10, with a formal contract signed between the Changzhou People's Government, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., the Wujin District Semiconductor Lighting Application Research Institute, and the Fuzhou Internet of Things Laboratory. The event took place in Wujin High-tech Zone, where academician Zheng Youzhen from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with city and district leaders Li Lin and Zhang Chengzu, were present to witness the signing.
NB-IoT, or Narrowband Internet of Things, is a new wide-area network (WAN) technology that has gained global popularity in recent years. It is seen as a key direction for future connectivity, especially in areas like smart lighting, smart cities, and intelligent manufacturing, where it holds massive market potential. In June this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice encouraging the comprehensive development of NB-IoT networks, aiming for nationwide coverage by 2020. Our district has long been focused on the growth of the emerging Internet of Things industry. To further promote the application of technologies like NB-IoT in the lighting sector, the joint lab was formed based on the principle of “complementary strengths, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation.†This initiative will establish an application platform for IoT technologies such as NB-IoT in the lighting industry.
According to reports, the "NB-IoT Intelligent Lighting Joint Laboratory" will be operated under the Wujin District Semiconductor Lighting Research Institute in Changzhou. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Changzhou will actively build national-level IoT demonstration bases, including smart streetlights, smart water meters, and smart municipal systems. The city also aims to participate in IoT standard development and gradually enhance the networking of products within the industry ecosystem, striving to create a nationally recognized model for the IoT industry.
Deputy Mayor Li Lin expressed hope that the relevant departments of Changzhou City and Wujin District would provide thoughtful and convenient services to support the lab’s construction. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the lab’s pilot applications within the city, aiming to create exemplary demonstration projects that can inspire broader adoption.
