Panasonic has developed a new sensor that doubles the low-noise performance

Panasonic announced the development of a new image sensor. The use of prism-like "Micro Color Splitters" (Micro Color Splitters) to replace the existing color filter arrangement, so that the sensor sensitivity has been greatly improved. The currently used dichroic filter will lose part of the incident light, and the actual light received by the sensor is only half of the incident light. The biggest advantage of Panasonic's new sensor is that all incident light can illuminate the sensor, so you can get less noisy photos in low-light environments.

According to Panasonic, a sensor that uses a micro color separation method is equivalent to double the sensitivity and double the noise performance. In other words, the performance of the new sensor at ISO 3200 is just like the normal sensor at ISO 1600.

Since the Foveon X3 sensor appeared 10 years ago, this is the first time we have seen a new sensor technology that changes the color separation method. However, like all other latest technologies, if you want to see camera products equipped with new sensors on the market, you need to wait a long time.
