The main instrument for measuring natural gas flow, because it can automatically compensate for temperature and pressure, so it has high precision and stable performance, and is often used for trade settlement. It can be installed vertically or horizontally. However, in actual use, it is often found that the reading is unstable during horizontal installation, and even the inside of the pipeline is out of breath, but the reading does not change. What is the reason?

1. The internal rotor of the Roots flowmeter is precision machined. When it is installed vertically, the rotor reaches the optimal balance state, no contact rotation, good oil lubrication, ensuring the accuracy of the flowmeter and long working life. However, when installed horizontally, the rotor is in a top-down position. If the upstream and downstream valves are re-opened after the metering is interrupted, especially if the opening is too fast, the gas violently impacts the rotor, which easily causes the rotor to become stuck, thereby causing a situation in which the metering cannot be performed.

2. The Roots flowmeter can be installed before and after the straight pipe section, and can be installed in a narrow environment. Therefore, some customers even the filter device at the front end of the flowmeter is omitted. If it is installed vertically, if there is a little small particle impurity or dust on it, they will easily pass between the two rotors and pass through the pipe quickly. If it is installed horizontally, these impurities or dust will accumulate in the rotor compartment. In the long run, the more impurities and dust accumulate, the rotor is stuck and cannot move, and even the rotor is damaged, so that the flowmeter cannot be measured correctly.

Therefore, Jiangsu Aoke Instrument Co., Ltd. recommends that users use the vertical installation method when conditions permit. If the on-site pipeline is already arranged, it is impossible to install it vertically. Be sure to install a filter device upstream of the flowmeter.
