See also said once boy! Remember the memories of Nintendo Red and White FC

Every generation carries a memory of its time. At first, this memory is unclear and unformed, but over time, it becomes something natural and familiar. The earliest form of this kind of memory is what we call "emotions."

Who can truly understand the deep feelings of these 30 years? Perhaps only this!

I don't know when it started, but games—this young vocabulary—have also developed a "feeling" attribute. From the '80s to now, the generations born in the '80s and '90s have gone through 30 years of ups and downs. This is the journey of video games, from being misunderstood to becoming a normal part of life. The '80s and '90s generation is now in the middle of their lives, having completed a full cycle of experiences.

What games did you play with back then?

As someone from the post-90s generation, I feel like we're about to face our "middle age crisis." But throughout the years, we've grown from confused teenagers into independent, responsible adults. Our memories of games are more than just nostalgia—they're a source of comfort and connection to our past.

Nintendo Red and White Machine – Thirty Years of Classic "Sentiment"

The Nintendo Family Computer, or FC, was released in 1983 and remained on the market until 2003. In those 20 years, it sold 67 million units worldwide. It wasn’t just a game console—it carried so much cultural memory. We all had that secret childhood moment of sneaking in to play games on weekends. After more than a decade, meeting it again might bring back something special.

Past, Present, and Future: The Deep Roots of Gaming Dreams

In today’s gaming landscape, the major platforms for Chinese gamers are Sony and Microsoft. As technology advances, the quality and immersion of games have improved dramatically. Each platform has its own set of iconic titles, but with constant innovation, few games manage to stay in players’ minds for more than a few years. How many consoles can still be remembered after 30 years?

What games did you play with your friends as a child?

People born in the early 1980s seem to have a stronger emotional connection to the Nintendo FC. While the red and white machine was popular in the '70s, it really took off in the '80s. However, as a '90s kid, my memories of it aren't as strong. My childhood was shaped by arcades where games cost a dollar or ten cents, and computer rooms that charged five cents an hour. These experiences were different from the nostalgia of the FC.

These small arcade rooms are rare now.

How many of you share a similar story? Between 2000 and 2011, the Chinese game market saw dramatic changes. It was a time when our generation was misunderstood and even labeled as "electronic heroin" or "net addiction." Society's view of video games was simple and often negative, focusing on violence and addiction.

17 years since the "color change" and gradual acceptance of the internet.

With the pressure of work, social isolation, and mental stress, the game world became a real refuge and a source of comfort. It wasn't just about rebellion; it was about the love of a generation for games. After 17 years, society's perception has shifted—from fear to acceptance. And many of us who once played too much have now become the pillars of society.

Over 30 years, the development of electronic games has been steady. We all must admit that the old red-and-white machine was the starting point for most of us in the gaming world. Even though it may seem outdated now, the feelings it brings remain strong.

Performance ≠ Fun: 8-bit Games Still Touch the Heart

Today’s game consoles offer incredible performance, better graphics, and deeper immersion. But does that mean games are more fun? Looking back, do modern games still follow the same core principles that Nintendo introduced 30 years ago?

The games that accompanied most of us in childhood.

Recently, I got the 30th-anniversary mini version of the Nintendo FC. Seeing it again after more than a decade made me realize how much joy it still brings. Some memories never fade, even if they’re buried under time.

A console like the red and white machine has gone through 30 years of change. Each generation feels it differently, and that’s why we’ve found players of different ages sharing their stories. Let’s take a look at what they have to say.

I often wonder where video games began and where they will go. Unlike my father’s basketball or tin toys, the red and white machines on our tables were filled with game cards. For many Chinese players, this was the first encounter with a game console, bringing endless joy to our childhood. Back then, a few friends and an FC could make a whole day of fun. Now, with high-resolution graphics and complex gameplay, we no longer find the same happiness as before.
