In recent years, the traditional image of factory workers has been gradually fading as automation takes center stage. The once bustling production workshops are now being replaced by intelligent systems and computer-controlled robots. With the rapid development and application of artificial intelligence in manufacturing, "robot replacement" has become a key trend in industrial transformation. This year, Liyang City is committed to advancing industrial breakthroughs and accelerating the upgrade of its new industrialization. Building on more than 200 industrial robots already in place, the city plans to introduce an additional 260 units. A total investment of 21 billion yuan will be allocated for technological upgrades, aiming to comprehensively drive industrial transformation.
The push for robot integration is part of a broader strategy to enhance productivity and efficiency. At Jieshou Tianneng Battery Group's packaging workshop in Anhui, an integrated truss robot operates at a speed of one battery every five seconds, enabling the production of nearly 30,000 batteries daily. According to a representative from the company, this robotic system has increased output from 1,000 to between 1,300 and 1,500 batteries per hour, while also cutting labor requirements by half.
At the heart of this robotic production line is the MES (Manufacturing Execution System), which coordinates all equipment, robots, and processes across the board. By integrating the "Internet +", the entire production process becomes more intelligent and efficient. In response to the growing demand for smart manufacturing, Liyang City has introduced policies such as the "Two-wheel Drive Strategy" to support smart manufacturing projects. Companies that achieve national-level smart manufacturing pilot status can receive a subsidy of up to one million yuan, while those recognized as provincial smart factories or digital workshops may get a 500,000 yuan bonus.
In 2017, six workshops in Puyang City were designated as digital workshops in Anhui Province, benefiting from targeted policy support. Gao Wenjun, director of the Municipal Economic and Information Commission, noted that 206 industrial robots are currently in use across various industries, including food, medicine, and machinery. As part of this year’s efforts, Xiangyang City aims to promote the application of 260 more industrial robots to boost the level of industrial intelligence.
With the opening of the Xiangyang Xinsong Robotics Industrial Park, the city is accelerating its "robot substitution" initiative. Gao emphasized that the city is working with advanced robotics research institutions to develop comprehensive plans for robot deployment and is continuously refining support policies to better meet the needs of local enterprises.
The "Government Work Report" for this year highlighted the importance of implementing new technology applications, product development, and "robot replacement" projects. Equipment upgrades, production line changes, and robot substitutions are all contributing to the improvement of Liyang’s industrial R&D, production, management, and service capabilities.
This year, the city is also focusing on smart manufacturing, promoting the deep integration of the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence into traditional industries. The goal is to drive innovation, improve enterprise intelligence, and transform the industry through digital workshops, automated lines, and smart factories. The city plans to invest 43 billion yuan in industrial development this year, with 21 billion yuan specifically allocated for technological upgrades—representing a 20% increase compared to the previous year.
To further strengthen its position in the market, Liyang aims to launch 20 new provincial products, establish 10 enterprise technology centers, and build 1–2 industrial design centers. Additionally, the city is working towards achieving recognition for 3 "Anhui Industrial Exquisite Products," 1 provincial standard demonstration enterprise, and 1 intelligent factory and digital workshop. These efforts reflect the city’s commitment to driving industrial transformation and building a smarter, more competitive manufacturing sector.
