Advancing the pace of "robot substitutions" Xiangyang promotes industrial robot applications

In recent years, the traditional image of factory floors filled with human workers has been gradually fading. In its place, advanced computer-controlled robots are now taking over key manufacturing tasks. With the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into the industrial sector, "robot replacement" has become a major trend in the modernization and upgrading of industries. This year, Liyang City is committed to driving industrial breakthroughs and accelerating the development of new industrialization. Building on the deployment of over 200 industrial robots, the city plans to introduce an additional 260 units throughout the year. A total investment of 21 billion yuan will be allocated for technological upgrades, aiming to comprehensively transform and elevate the industrial landscape. The push for automation is being strategically planned and implemented across various sectors. At Jieshou Tianneng Battery Group's packaging workshop in Anhui, an integrated truss robot operates at a remarkable speed, picking up batteries and placing them onto pre-packing machines every five seconds. This system enables the production of nearly 30,000 batteries daily. According to the company’s representative, the introduction of this robotic line has significantly boosted efficiency—producing between 1,300 to 1,500 batteries per hour, compared to just 1,000 before. Additionally, the workforce has been reduced by 50%. At the heart of this transformation is the MES (Manufacturing Execution System), which acts as the central "brain" coordinating all equipment, robots, and processes. By integrating "Internet +", the entire production process becomes more intelligent and interconnected. This synergy between digital technologies and manufacturing is paving the way for smarter, more efficient operations. Liyang City has also introduced supportive policies to encourage smart manufacturing. Last year, the city launched the “Two-wheel drive strategy” to promote the development of new industrialization. Projects that achieve national-level smart manufacturing pilot status can receive subsidies of up to one million yuan, while provincial-level smart factories and digital workshops are eligible for a 500,000-yuan bonus. In 2017, six workshops in Puyang City were recognized as digital workshops in Anhui Province, benefiting from corresponding policy support. Gao Wenjun, director of the Municipal Economic and Information Commission, noted that 206 industrial robots are currently in use across multiple sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, and machinery manufacturing. This year, the city aims to further accelerate the adoption of robotic solutions. By launching the Xiangyang Xinsong Robotics Industrial Park Project, the city is working to implement more robotic applications and enhance industrial intelligence. Gao added that the city is collaborating with advanced robotic research institutions to develop comprehensive strategies for robot deployment, while also refining support policies to better meet the needs of local businesses. The city’s Government Work Report emphasized the importance of implementing new technology applications, product innovations, and “robot replacement” projects. Equipment upgrades, production line changes, and automation are all contributing to a significant improvement in the intelligent level of Liyang’s R&D, production, management, and service systems. Beyond just replacing labor with robots, the city is actively developing the smart manufacturing industry, promoting the deep integration of the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence with traditional manufacturing. As part of its broader plan, Liyang will continue the “100 billion capital, thousands of companies’ technological upgrading” initiative, focusing on enhancing enterprise technology and management levels. It also aims to elevate traditional industries along the value chain, expanding their growth potential during the transformation process. The annual industrial investment is set to reach 43 billion yuan, a 15% increase compared to the previous year. Of this, 21 billion yuan will be dedicated to technological upgrades, representing a 20% year-on-year rise. The city is also guiding the transformation of traditional industries such as green food, coal power, chemical manufacturing, and renewable resource utilization. To drive innovation, the city is focusing on improving enterprise intelligence through the use of digital tools like the Internet and big data. It is accelerating the construction of digital workshops, automated production lines, smart factories, and smart parks. The goal is to shift production methods toward greater flexibility, intelligence, and precision. By 2018, the city aims to achieve several milestones: 20 new provincial-level products, 10 provincial-level enterprise technology centers, 1-2 industrial design centers in Anhui, 3 Anhui industrial exquisite products, 1 provincial standard demonstration enterprise, 1 provincial technological innovation demonstration enterprise, 1 provincial intelligent factory and digital workshop, and 30 municipal enterprise technology centers.
