China's wind power grid connection capacity has reached 31.07 million kilowatts for five consecutive years

According to the latest data from China Electricity Council, as of the end of 2010, China's wind power grid connection capacity reached 31.07 million kilowatts, which has doubled in five consecutive years. Experts said that with the rapid rise of renewable energy installations such as wind power and photovoltaics in China, supporting peaking power supply construction and grid construction must keep up, but this may lead to an increase in the cost of integrated power grid operation.

According to Jiang Liping, deputy director of the State Grid Energy Research Institute, there are serious wind power plants in China that have large scale, small grid capacity, and weak grid construction. The instability of wind power brings enormous challenges to the economics of grid operation and power supply.

In order to support the development of wind power and large-scale consumption, the State Grid Corporation of China has stepped up its efforts in power grid construction. By the end of 2010, it had invested a total of 41.8 billion yuan, completed 23,200 kilometers of wind-power grid-connected lines, and its wind-power grid-connected installed capacity has reached 2826 in its operating area. Million kilowatts, accounting for 4.2% of the entire network's maximum electricity load.

Among them, Mengdong, Jilin, and Oubei ranked the top three wind power installations, and wind power grid capacity accounted for 82%, 28.6%, and 9.8% of the total load of the entire network. However, in terms of grid operation in these regions, there are increasing operational instability factors caused by the relatively high installed capacity of wind power.

According to experts, the rapid increase in wind power grid-connected power installations requires the acceleration of the construction of peaking power, such as the construction of pumped-storage power stations and the construction of fuel-fired gas power stations. The output of these power stations is relatively flexible and can be adjusted to meet the requirements of the grid to ensure smooth load. But the economy is poor.

Jiang Liping suggested that the coal-fired electric base outbound channel should be used to realize the joint dispatch of wind and fire, which will help expand the scope and scale of wind power consumption and reduce the cost of large-scale wind power development.

However, she also pointed out that in order to adapt to the development of renewable energy such as large-scale wind power, the cost of comprehensive power grid operation will be greatly increased. The forecast shows that the 2020 target for wind power installations will increase from 100 million kilowatts to 150 million kilowatts. In this case, the power grid investment needs to increase by 4.8% accordingly. Pump power storage, gas-fired power generation and Other power supply investments that increase system peaking and operational flexibility need to increase by 8.5% and 11.4%. The operating cost of the entire power system will increase by 1.1%. It may push up the price.
