Interview with Israel Altair: Focus on 4G chips

Israeli chip company co-founder EranEshed said in an interview with NetEase Technology at the MWC2010 conference, "Our LTE chips are already commercially available, and now there are only three companies that can provide commercially available LTE chips, except Qualcomm and ST-Ericsson, only us , And our LTE terminal chip not only supports LTE, but also supports TD-LTE. "

At present, global mainstream operators including VerizonWireless and AT & T, Japan's top two operators, NTT Docomo, and Hong Kong's top operator CSL have started their respective LTE network construction and testing. China Mobile will also TD-LTE trial commercial service will be provided during the Shanghai World Expo.

EranEshed said, "Last year's MWC everyone was only discussing LTE, but at this year's conference, all manufacturers were demonstrating LTE technology solutions, and many operators even announced new LTE commercial network deployment contracts."

"We and ZTE have started a strategic cooperation. Both parties are testing commercial LTE terminal products. At the same time, we also have off-site test cooperation with many operators. Of course, there are other terminal partners. We will announce in the future." EranEshed Added.

There are opinions in the industry that Wimax and LTE will become the final 4G standard. For this, EranEshed said, "The 4G debate between WiMax and LTE is over, and there is only one winner in the end, that is LTE. "

EranEshed emphasized, "Operators need to be prepared to upgrade to LTE whenever needed. From Apple and AT & T in the United States, it can be seen that AT & T's 3G network can no longer keep up with the increased bandwidth demand brought by the iPhone. With the growth of smartphone shipments, such growth may suddenly explode, and users' demand for mobile bandwidth will increase, so operators must prepare in advance. "

"Although it may take 3-5 years for operators to deploy LTE on a large scale, for chip manufacturers, 2010 is very important. If they are not ready now, it will be too late to prepare when the market has demand."

Altair Semiconductor was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in HodHaSharon, a city in central Israel.
