Japan Mectron uses telescopic flexible substrates to prototype sensor modules worn on the human body

Encapsulated on flexible FPC and routed by Japanese company Mectron in the "41st INTERNEP JAPAN" (January 18-20, 2012, Tokyo Ariake International Convention and Exhibition Center) exhibited a sensor module worn on the body to monitor human activities " Band-aid type human activity monitoring system." The module applies the flexible FPC flexible flexible substrate that the company is currently developing. It was jointly developed with the former former professor of the Graduate School of Hyogo Prefectural University.

The sensor module is divided into a power supply part, a communication part, and a sensor part, each consisting of a multilayer flexible substrate. By packaging these three multilayer flexible substrates onto an elastic FPC and wiring, the action of the body can be absorbed by the elastic FPC. Sensors are equipped with sensors that sense body temperature, heart rate, and acceleration.

The elastic FPC that Mectron Corporation of Japan had exhibited at the exhibition was originally envisaged for use in robots and other applications. Therefore, Cu wiring with a width of about 400 μm was used in a wave-like manner (see this site for a report). This time, in order to use on a small sensor module, the width of the Cu wiring was reduced to 50 to 100 μm to form a wave.
