On November 10, 2010, Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. announced a multi-output white LED driver for consumer and industrial display LCD backlights. Allegro's new A8515 device has advanced protection features to provide the best view. It integrates a current mode boost converter with an internal power switch and two current transformers.
The boost converter can drive up to 24 LEDs with a current of 120mA. Two LED current transformers can also be connected in parallel to bring the LED current to 240mA. This new device can operate from a single 5-40V supply. A regulated voltage as low as 720mV on the LED current source reduces power loss and increases efficiency. The data sheet contains a comprehensive fault table that describes the advanced performance and protection features of the A8515. The drive is also equipped with an (optional) external input disconnect switch.
The A8515GLPTR-T is available in an eTSSOP-16 (LP) package with an exposed heatsink for enhanced thermal dissipation.
