Australian solar tax rebate will be further reduced?

Australia’s solar tax rebates experienced a cutback in the past and are now facing a further reduction.

Currently, the solar tax rebate is five times that of the renewable energy tax rebate. It was originally planned to reduce it to four times by July 2012. However, in December last year, the government announced that the solar loan multiple reduction will be implemented one year in advance.

The first cut was implemented on July 1, 2011, which means that starting from July, the subsidy for purchasing a system will be reduced by $1,200.

According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, the government will also consider reducing the subsidy from four times to three times again, and encourage buyers to purchase larger systems by cutting subsidies.

The article also seems to imply that the rise in the price of the battery is the “culprit” that caused the price of electricity to rise.

The article also mentioned another controversial issue regarding the value of solar panels in greenhouse gas emissions. The article said that the small-scale solar power system will reduce the cost of one ton of carbon emissions from 200 to 300 US dollars. The national solar energy solution EnergyMatters calculates that according to the current five-fold subsidy level, the cost of reducing carbon emissions for a 1.5kW home solar power system will be approximately US$80 per ton within 25 years.

Roof solar arrays can provide more than 25 years of clean power. According to the current tax rebate reduction plan, subsidies for carbon reduction will be further reduced.
