Recently, Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. submitted a recall plan to the AQSIQ as per the regulations on managing defective automobile product recalls. Starting from July 28, 2017, they recalled certain models manufactured between June 17, 2016, and November 29, 2016. Specifically, this involved some 2016 Dongfeng Nissan Tianzhu models imported from Japan, totaling 30,279 vehicles. But what exactly is this car?
The exterior design of the Tianzhu series has been updated with a modern flair. While not all models feature full LED headlights, the lower beams are LED in most versions, with halogen used only in the base and second-lowest trim levels. This update is a welcome change for many buyers. The front grille adopts Nissan's latest family design, showcasing a more pronounced three-dimensional effect without the previous chrome strips. Additionally, the rear lights now follow the styling of the front lights, giving the car a more youthful and dynamic appearance.
Inside, the cabin has seen significant upgrades. A touch-screen LCD display has been added to the center console, providing users with access to Apple CarPlay functionality. This allows drivers to manage their phones, play music, and navigate using voice commands. The interior comfort features are equally impressive, including a keyless entry/start system, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and leather seats and steering wheel. Despite being considered an economical option, these features make the car highly appealing.
In terms of performance, the 2016 Scorpio continues to offer two naturally aspirated engines: a 2.0-liter unit producing 150 horsepower and a 2.5-liter variant delivering 186 horsepower. Both engines pair with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
However, during the production process, it was discovered that some vehicles had an improperly selected brake light switch that couldn't handle high currents. Under extreme conditions, the switch might degrade, potentially causing continuous heating and melting of the circuitry, leading to a fire risk. To address this issue, Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. plans to replace the faulty switches with improved versions for all affected vehicles within the recall range.
