Fudan develops ultraviolet LED light source power density to catch up with the world

Recently, Fudan University exhibited two UV LED light curing systems at the 16th China International Industry Fair. One of them has a power density of 200 watts per square centimeter. Various customized systems expanded by the light source module have been put into use. . This series of high-power UV LED light curing system was developed by the academic team of Zhang Shanduan, deputy director of the Institute of Electric Light Sources of Fudan University and deputy director of the Department of Light Source and Lighting Engineering of the School of Information.

The UV LED chip developed by Fudan has applied for two patents, and its power density is the highest among the products currently successfully applied to the market worldwide.

Zhang Shanduan team utilized the high thermal conductivity and insulation properties of aluminum nitride to creatively propose a sandwich structure of aluminum nitride and copper plate integrated packaging process, the current density is more than 10 times higher than the ceramic printed circuit board, and the power of the packaged UV LED light source module The density is as high as 20 to 200 watts per square centimeter, reaching the international advanced level. The wavelength of the UV LED light is only 365 ~ 395 nm, the team is currently working with partners to customize the shorter wavelength LED light source, and will develop a full-wavelength range of LED light curing system to completely replace the traditional UV light source.

In the curing process, the ultraviolet LED light source has obvious advantages over the medium pressure mercury lamp and the ultraviolet metal halide lamp. It has a radiation efficiency that is 1 to 2 times higher than that of a conventional ultraviolet light source, a life of more than 10 times, and a low temperature. The surface temperature of the traditional light source can reach 600 to 800 degrees, which is easy to cause explosion during the curing process. The surface temperature of the ultraviolet LED light source is only 90 degrees, which is safer in the photocuring process.

Compared with similar products at home and abroad, the UV LED light source developed by Zhang Shanduan's team has a large package power density and can realize many functions that cannot be realized by traditional light sources. For example, in the production of wood flooring, wood grain paper is required. The conventional light source has low power density and insufficient light intensity. Therefore, materials such as wood grain paper with low transmittance cannot be cured by light. The high-power ultraviolet LED light source utilizes strong light to make the adhesive dry quickly, and can even be applied to the adhesion of black wood grain, black marble grain, etc., and comprehensively solves the problem of light curing in the production of wood floor.

Fudan Zhang Shanduan's successful high-power UV LED light curing system is being industrialized and has broad application prospects in the UV curing industry. It is reported that in the first nine months of this year, the sales of the curing system has reached more than 60 million yuan, the system is used in color printing, furniture, wood flooring, photochemical synthesis, fiber drawing and other industries.

In the furniture industry, UV LED light curing can simplify the paint process from one to two to one or two, and the processing time is shortened from half a month to half a day, saving energy, saving money, saving labor and environmental protection. In high-power industries such as wood flooring, wood-plastic panels and laminate flooring, the use of high-power UV LED light curing systems can save more than 90% compared to traditional medium-pressure mercury lamps. In the photochemical synthesis industry, high-power UV LED light sources will be used in pharmaceutical and petrochemical synthesis to replace traditional light sources.

The photocuring system will be used for deep application development in the curing of the equipment. For example, in combination with the light-curing system of rust-proof and water-based paints used in cars and boats, the paint can be quickly dried, and the UV curing industry will be redefined in the future.
