What do the lighting people think about the future of the lighting industry? This survey gives you the answer

According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Hong Kong International Spring Lighting Fair (Spring Light Exhibition) 2018 questionnaire survey, the lighting industry is full of confidence in the future of the future. Although some of the interviewed buyers and exhibitors have reservations about the prospects of overseas markets, the overall view is more optimistic than six months ago.

In terms of products, commercial lighting is expected to be the most popular and the largest increase in sales in 2018. As for home lighting, although the lighting industry's confidence in such products is slightly weakened, the outlook is still satisfactory.

In the long run, smart lighting is considered the hottest new product. Most respondents expect smart lighting to grow in the next two years. In the intelligent lighting category, home automation and intelligent lighting control systems, energy-saving lighting control solutions and wireless lighting control systems have the greatest potential for development.

Optimistic expectation

In the 2018 survey of the Spring Lantern Exhibition, the industry's expectations for sales prospects were more optimistic than the similar survey conducted by the Hong Kong International Autumn Lighting Fair (Autumn Light Show) in October 2017. About 56% of respondents expect sales to increase this year, compared with 48% in October 2017.

However, exhibitors are more optimistic than buyers. A total of 77% of exhibitors believe that sales will increase in the coming year, and only 59% of exhibitors held the same opinion at the Autumn Light Show six months ago, with a significant increase. In contrast, only 44% of buyers in 2018 expect sales to increase, up 4 percentage points from the relevant ratio in the October 2017 survey.

However, compared with the October 2017 Autumn Light Show survey, the industry's confidence in the growth prospects of its major overseas sales market has decreased. Specifically, Western Europe is the most ideal traditional market for growth prospects, with a score of 3.66 (5 points on a 5-point scale, 1 point is very unsatisfactory, and 5 points is ideal). Other promising markets are North America (3.5 points) and Australia and the Pacific Islands (3.38 points).

Respondents also had a positive outlook on the growth prospects of emerging markets, with Russia gaining 3.65 points and India gaining 3.61 points. In contrast, respondents expect Asian developing countries' growth prospects in 2018 to be slightly inferior, including mainland China (3.53 points) and ASEAN countries (3.47 points).

commercial lighting

It is worth noting that many operators believe that commercial lighting is expected to surpass home lighting to become the lighting product category with the greatest growth potential in 2018. 34% of respondents with this opinion are more than 16% of the autumn light show in October 2017. Times.

Although respondents' confidence in home lighting declined slightly, home lighting is still one of the three most popular lighting product categories. 26% of respondents expect home lighting to be the product category with the greatest growth potential in 2018.

Intelligent lighting products are another product category with a bright future. In the 2018 survey, more than 16% of respondents believe that the sales of such lighting products will be better this year, and the proportion of relevant respondents surveyed in October 2017 is only 7%.

Intelligent lighting

With the accelerated pace of development of smart homes and smart cities, it is widely expected that the use of smart lighting will become increasingly popular. Similarly, 72% of respondents expect that sales of smart lighting will increase significantly in the next two years.

Overall, home automation and intelligent lighting control systems (27%), energy-saving lighting control solutions (23%) and wireless lighting control systems (22%) are the most promising areas of intelligent lighting.

In addition, 82% of respondents said that they would consider integrating smart functions into their products. It is obvious that the industry generally has a positive attitude towards smart lighting.

Of those surveyed who intend to incorporate smart features into their products, 38% plan to use sensor/auto dimming, and 34% focus on wireless communication technology. Another 15% said they would join the sound control/remote control device.
