As an important part of the LED industry chain, the LED chip industry directly determines the development of the LED industry. At present, domestic power-type lighting-grade LED chip products have made great progress in terms of light efficiency, life and reliability, and developed a series of key process technologies such as graphic substrate, transparent electrode and omnidirectional mirror. Domestic chips are expected to gradually penetrate and eventually replace imported chips in many applications with superior performance and competitive price advantages.
At this stage, China's LED chip industry has mainly formed a supply chain based on several major chip manufacturers such as Sanan Optoelectronics, Huacan Optoelectronics, Dehao Runda, Tongfang, Aoyang Shunchang, and Ganzhao Optoelectronics; The silicon substrate LED technology has made breakthroughs, and the chip companies represented by Jingneng Optoelectronics are expected to find another way.
In recent years, due to the "price war" and the vicious competition of "crazy expansion", the price of upstream chip products has repeatedly bottomed out. In 2016, the LED industry rebounded and the rate of capacity expansion slowed down. Chip manufacturers such as Jingdian and Sanan successively increased their prices, leading the LED industry to hang a round of “price surgesâ€.
Entering 2017, the concentration of the LED industry will be further improved, and the industry competition will become more rational. The major LED chip companies are also moving towards different development paths.
Sanan Optoelectronics reported a 50% increase in half a year
Sanan Optoelectronics released a semi-annual report on the evening of the 10th. In the first half of 2017, the company achieved sales revenue of 4.067 billion yuan, an increase of 46.37% over the same period of last year; net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 1.515 billion yuan, an increase of 56.76%. The net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 1.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 103.04%.
In the first half of the year, demand for LED chips was strong, prices remained stable, and equipment was in full production, still in short supply. During the reporting period, the company's investment project Xiamen Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. (Phase II) MOCVD equipment is gradually coming to the factory, and the production capacity will be gradually released from the third quarter.
The automotive lighting business of the application products of Anrui Optoelectronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanan Optoelectronics, is also stepping up its layout, expanding its production capacity, and actively supporting automobile manufacturers, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent increase in market share.
At present, Sanan Optoelectronics produces LED chips in different fields and different wavelengths according to the characteristics of the market. The product range is complete, covering a wide range of applications, providing downstream customers with more choices and more cost-effective products to meet different levels of customer needs.
Aoyang Shunchang plans to expand production of LED chips by 1.7 billion yuan
On the evening of August 7, Aoyang Shunchang announced that the company's controlling subsidiary Huai'an Aoyang Shunchang Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Huai'an Optoelectronics") plans to implement LED epitaxial wafer and chip expansion project, which is currently available in Huai'an Optoelectronics. On the basis of production capacity, the company's LED epitaxial wafer and chip annual production capacity will be expanded to 16.5 million pieces (equivalent to two pieces).
The overall scale of the expansion project is an annual output of 12 million epitaxial wafers and chips, with a total investment of approximately RMB 1.7 billion.
Aoyang Shunchang will build 4.5 million pieces of production capacity using the existing conditions of LED Phase II project site, capital and supporting facilities, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. Another 7.5 million pieces of production capacity needs to be rebuilt and implemented. It is expected to be completed within 2 years. After the implementation of the expansion project, the company will form an annual output of 16.5 million pieces of epitaxial wafers and chips.
Cree and Emson resolve patent disputes
Recently, Cree issued a press release stating that the company has reached a confidential settlement with E. Mishan and Sons ("Emson") on patent infringement lawsuits. In addition, Emson agreed to sign an exclusive supply agreement with the company to purchase Cree high-power LEDs for its high-performance tactical flashlights.
According to the data, on November 14, 2016, CREE filed a complaint against the US company Emson in the US District Court of Massachusetts, alleging that Emson's flashlight products infringed its LED technology patents, including Bell + Howell Taclight.
“Cree is pleased with the outcome of the lawsuit to protect its intellectual property,†Dave Emerson said, and Cree will continue to work to protect consumers and suppliers from unauthorized LEDs in applications and markets. We look forward to working with Emson to provide quality products, including Cree's high quality LED chips and components.
After years of intensive research and development, Cree has developed a wide portfolio of LED patents, and many patents are pending.
Philips Lighting Releases LED PAR30 Spotlights
Recently, Philips Lighting released a new generation of commercial LED PAR30 spotlights, which meets the replacement requirements of 70W ceramic metal halide lamps in terms of lumens and color temperature. This high-brightness, high-efficiency, high-quality product will lead commercial PAR spotlights into the LED era with its excellent heat dissipation, safety and precision.
In the past, the technology has limited the replacement of traditional ceramic metal halide lamps by LEDs in terms of light efficiency and heat dissipation, and delayed the promotion of LED applications in the field of commercial lighting.
Philips Lighting's new generation of commercial LED PAR30 spotlights, with a power of only 40W, a total lumen of up to 4500 lumens, a color temperature of 3000K, can replace 70W ceramic metal halide lamps.
In order to better concentrating performance, it is necessary to use a point light source with a smaller size and higher brightness. At present, the COB chip on the world cannot meet the design requirements. This Philips lighting specially designed the ceramic substrate COB chip, which is the first in the industry. The high-density, COB chip has a luminous efficacy of up to 150 lm/W.
The introduction of Philips' new generation of commercial LED PAR30 spotlights, which combines high brightness and high luminous efficiency, will lead commercial PAR spotlights into the more energy-efficient LED era.
Wuxi LED Factory Phase II Project
On August 8, the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase expansion project of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Wuxi Plant was successfully held in the Osram plant of Wuxi High-tech Zone.
The OSRAM Wuxi plant was officially put into operation in 2014. It is the first LED back-end plant invested by OSRAM in China and the second LED back-end plant that OSRAM has invested in worldwide. With the booming demand for OSRAM LED products in the global market, OSRAM launched the second phase expansion project of Wuxi Plant. The expansion project will increase the existing production capacity by more than twice and add more than 2,000 jobs.
According to Lim Khoon Teck, General Manager of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, the second phase of the Wuxi plant is expected to be put into production in early 2019. The construction of the second phase of the project will further strengthen Osram's leading position in the Chinese LED market and promote the local economic development of Wuxi.
The success of the first phase of the Wuxi plant and the launch of the second phase of the expansion project have made the Wuxi plant the focus of the development of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in China and become the core representative of China's localization strategy. OSRAM is committed to transforming the Wuxi plant into a leading production base in Europe and Asia that can be modeled after the OSRAM Opto Semiconductors production base.
